Wine 1: Crotin Barbera d’Asti
This wine has been a constant favorite of many of our top Italian restaurants and others with Italian influenced cooking. It comes from likely the coldest section of Asti—quite close to Turin—which was the first area to be abandoned after WWII (because it had a train station while many other areas further south didn’t!) and one of the last to be replanted since. It’s a wine that showcases the classic qualities of Barbera, Piedmont’s most widely planted red grape. It’s fresh and textured with soft tannins and mouth-watering wild fruit qualities. Think of those Italian cooking nights without the need to hold the wine so precious; just let it lift your spirit and raise your glass in appreciation for the Italians and their contribution to the world with their splendid culture. Lighter in body, elegant and fruity with notes of red fruit and minerality.
Wine 2: Di Prisco Fiano di Avelino
Fiano or Vitis Apicia is a vine in all probability dating back to Greek times, which established itself in the Italian peninsula with the Romans, found its home in Irpinia and hence the name Fiano di Avellino which goes to delimit in a certain sense the production area of the DOCG. The latter is partly included in the Partenio regional park, consisting of the Serino Plain and an extensive hilly strip of altitude between 300 and 600 meters, limited to the west by the Partenio mountain group and to the east by the Terminio-Tuoro Group. The soils are characterized by the presence of clay mixed with sand. Notes of stone fruit, hints of almond and citrus round out this beautiful wine. Perfect with roast chicken, salmon or pork.
